With Sooryavanshi, Akshay Kumar sets a new record; enters the charts of actors with highest grossers of the year for the FIRST time

The year 2021 has been a rather tumultuous year for the film industry, with Covid wreaking havoc and theatres being shut, films have had to find an alternate means to reach the audience. With filmmakers opting to go the OTT way, a few chose to hold fast and release their ventures in theatres. One such film was Sooryavanshi. Being the first big ticket Bollywood release of 2021 there were high expectations from the Akshay Kumar starrer, that eventually live up to the hype.

Now with Sooryavanshi drawing in Rs. 196 cr. at the box office, the film has managed to become the highest grosser of the year. Thanks to this, Akshay Kumar for the first time has made his entry into the list of actors whose films have become highest grossers of that particular year. Interestingly, leading the list is Salman Khan who has had 9 of his films emerge as the highest grossers of their respective year, while Aamir Khan has 7, and Shah Rukh Khan 5.

 

Despite the fact that Akshay Kumar remains as one of the most bankable actors today, it is interesting to note that Sooryavanshi ranks as his first highest grosser that has granted him entry into this club. Besides Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman the list also includes the likes of Amitabh Bachchan with 6 releases, Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor with 4 releases each amongst others.
