High Courts issues notice to makers of PK for plagiarism

The Aamir Khan - Anushka Sharma starrer PK that has become by far one of the highest grossing films in the recent times, released way back in December. Now almost a month later we hear that the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the makers of the film namely, director Rajkumar Hirani, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and writer Abhijat Joshi for plagiarism, directing them to appear before joint registrar of the high court on April 16 for recording of evidence.

 

This ruling of the HC presided by Justice Najmi Waziri, came after a plea had been filed by novelist KapilIsapuri. According to his petition, Isapuri claims that the makers of PK have copied certain characters, ideas and scenes of the film from his book 'Farishta' that was published earlier in 2013. He has mentioned that certain sequences in the storyline of the film which includes criticizing the blind faith towards godmen, terming religion as a man-made concept bear resemblance to the topics that have been explored in the novel. The petition also claimed that the filmmakers have used these ideas by smartly making minor changes. Further in his petition Isapuri has claimed Rs. 1 crore as punitive damage.
