Producer Vashu Bhagnani held a virtual press conference from Dubai with selected members of the media on May 22 and shed light on his ongoing legal dispute with Ramesh Taurani of Tips over the film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The Varun Dhawan-starrer is directed by David Dhawan.
Vashu said, “David ji is like my brother. Legal action lene ke baad maine aap ko maara hai. David ji, Kumar ji and Ramesh ji are my blood and soul. No one had contacted me at all. I last spoke to the Dhawan family 6 months ago. They told me, ‘Once our film is ready, we’ll show you. Tips has added these songs, not us’. I told them, ‘This is not correct. You made that film for me. How can you shoot the same song for someone else?’.”
He added, “Ethically, David Dhawan is at fault here. Ramesh Taurani is a businessman and would take the legal route. But David Dhawan should have some sense. If David ji had refused, toh Ramesh ji kya kar lete? He shouldn’t have used these songs. Or he should have told me, ‘Vashu ji, yeh gaana kar raha hoon. Mere bete ki film hai. Please give me NOC’. I would have probably told him, ‘I’ll cancel Biwi No 1. Or I’ll sell IP of Biwi No 1. Aapko jo karna hai karo’. But he didn’t inform me at all.”
Vashu revealed, “When Ramesh ji was embroiled in a murder case, I didn’t sleep for 6 months. Day and night, unki seva ki hai. Similarly, whenever David ji faced an issue, I was the one to stand by him. But today, they have sidelined me.”
Vashu continued, “My wife and son have fought with me 4 times. They are asking me, ‘Why are you doing this?’. I told my wife, ‘He has taken my heart. How can they take my movie and my song? Don’t they have any other songs? Unko yeh do gaane lene ki zaroorat kya thi?’.”
He also said, “Even today, if David ji tells me, I’ll jump from 22 floors for him. But it has to be for an ethical reason. Or else, I’ll not even jump from the ground floor. He used to meet every now and then and have tea or coffee with me. Ever since ‘Chunari Chunari’ song was out, he has not even met me. It’s been 6 months.”
He added, “David ji, Ramesh ji and I won’t even take 3 minutes to solve this matter. I am not Iraq or America ki main jhagde ke peeche laga rahunga. I don’t want to stop the film or cause losses.”
