On Thursday, all the speculations about the female lead of the Prashanth Neel directed Salaar were put to rest and Prabhas himself announced that he would be paired alongside Shruti Haasan in the gangster drama. And now, Bollywood Hungama has learnt that another mega announcement is underway about Salaar as the makers have locked the tentative release date of the film.
“The Salaar team is planning to release it across the country in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. After contemplating on multiple release options, they have zeroed in on the Sankranti weekend for the film’s release,” a source told Bollywood Hungama. Well, the decision was taken after analysing the trend of films in the same weekend across all industries. “Considering the successful track record all across the country of Sankranti releases, the makers felt it's the best period for Salaar,” the source further added.
Interestingly, Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film, produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson is also targeting a release during the same weekend in Tamil and Telugu. “It would be the clash of titans as both Prabhas and Vijay have over the last 3 years established themselves as Pan-South Indian stars. While in Hindi belts, Prabhas will have a clear lead, it would be an interesting battle to see which film scores over the other in Southern markets in-case the clash happens. Right now, it’s all tentative, and we hope the clash doesn't happen, since both films stand a chance to be industry grosser,” the source shared.
In Salaar, Prabhas plays the character of a Mumbai based gangster, and the film is set to be in a zone similar to Prashanth Neel’s directorial debut, Ugram. Neel is best known for KGF: Chapter 1 with Yash in the lead.
