The criticism focused on her intimate scenes in the film, leading her to release a statement expressing her disappointment. On Instagram, Ruhani Sharma shared a detailed message addressing the backlash, expressing her dismay and heartbreak over the leak of a project her team had worked on for months.

She wrote, “Creating an art film is an intense journey filled with countless challenges, sleepless nights and unwavering commitment.” Ruhani called out those who were quick to judge the project, without acknowledging the hard work that went into it. Mentioning the accolades Agra has received worldwide, including a screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, the actress affirmed that they strive to push “boundaries of world cinema.” She stated, “I stand by my choices and I’m incredibly proud of this film and the entire team that made it happen,” urging people to respect filmmaking. Ruhani closed her statement by encouraging the public to love film rather than criticizing the artists' work.

Celebrities and netizens have shown their support for the actress in the comments’ section. Actress Lavanya Tripathi posted an encouraging message: "You go, girl!" Agra is directed by Kanu Behl, who also co-wrote the film with Atika Chohan. The cast features Mohit Agarwal, Priyanka Bose, Ruhani Sharma, Rahul Roy, Vibha Chibber, and Sonal Jha. The film is produced by Saregama India Ltd, UFO Production, and O28 Films.
