Jr NTR has cemented his place as one of the leading stars in Indian cinema, delivering a range of powerful performances across his career. Among his many notable roles, his portrayal of Komaram Bheem in S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR remains a standout. The film, which released three years ago, was not only a commercial success but also earned global recognition, including an Academy Award for its song ‘Naatu Naatu’.
Jr. NTR Reflects on His Journey in RRR
Reflecting on the milestone, Jr NTR spoke about how his journey in the industry shaped his approach to RRR. “I've never had a process or recipe that I’ve followed when it comes to acting. No actor can follow a set method for that matter. Rajamouli as a director has always challenged me. This is my fourth collaboration with him. Having worked with him, I’ve realised that an actor has to be naive to understand and deliver what his director wants. In my first three collaborations with Rajamouli, I was very naïve. I think all that naivety prepared me to play Bheem in RRR. Everything I had done until this in my career, prepared me for this project,” he said.
Director S.S. Rajamouli, known for extracting intense performances from his actors, shared his admiration for Jr NTR’s commitment to the role. “With NTR, it felt like I was shooting with not one, but two tigers,” he remarked.
RRR’s Global Impact & Oscar Win
RRR depicted the fictionalized story of two revolutionaries - Komaram Bheem, played by Jr. NTR, and Alluri Sitarama Raju, portrayed by Ram Charan. Set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle, the film was widely praised for its high-octane action sequences, strong performances, and larger-than-life storytelling. It also made history at the box office and beyond that, RRR became a cultural phenomenon, with ‘Naatu Naatu’ making waves internationally and eventually winning the Oscar for Best Original Song.
As Jr. NTR looks ahead, he is gearing up for major projects, including his Bollywood debut in War 2 and an untitled collaboration with KGF filmmaker Prashanth Neel, currently referred to as NTRNEEL. With such a strong lineup, the actor continues to expand his horizons while building on his already impressive filmography.
