Mani Ratnam opens up about the release of his magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2 : Bollywood News

Readers would be aware that Ponniyin Selvan is a two part film and the first part of the magnum opus is all set to release this month. However, as audiences were curious about the release of the second part, in a recent press conference, the filmmaker has opened up about the same. From what we hear, the film will be completed very soon and it will release next year.

Mani Ratnam is currently busy with the promotions of the multi starrer Ponniyin Selvan 1 aka PS 1. The filmmaker, during a recent media interaction, opened up about the release of the second part. He revealed that Ponniyin Selvan 2 has already been kicked off and that they are expecting to release the second part of this epic saga in 2023. The filmmaker asserted that they are looking at a gap of six to nine months post the release of PS 1 in September, which is expected to be in June 2023. The lead characters of the film include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini, Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi as Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai, and Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman. The character posters from the film were released by the makers last month.

For the uninitiated, PS 1 is a multi-starrer featuring big names from the South industry like Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayaram, Prabhu, among others. This is expected to be one of Mani Ratnam’s dream projects and is a period drama revolving around the Chola Empire. Further talking about Ponniyin Selvan, the film is based on the novel by the same name written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. With an ensemble cast, lavish sets, and extensive drama, the Lyca production film will release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. PS 1 is slated to release on September 30.
