Not too long ago, we spotted an elated Mani Ratnam as the filmmaker was gearing up for the release of his most ambitious film Ponniyin Selvan, a period drama set against the backdrop of the Chola regime with an ensemble star cast. The first teaser of the first part of the film was released earlier this month and needless to say, fans are eagerly to waiting to see the magnum opus unfold on the big screen. Amidst that, recent reports claim that Mani Ratnam was rushed to a hospital in Chennai after he complained of fever.
These reports suggest that the Bombay filmmaker Mani Ratnam was taken to the hospital after he displayed symptoms of fever. With the fear of COVID that continues to plague everyone, the filmmaker too was tested for the same. Fortunately, the results came out to be negative, after which, it is being said that the director-producer will be discharged today. As per PTI report, a source was quoted saying, “The director was taken to the hospital with symptoms of fever today and he underwent a checkup. He had tested negative for COVID-19, and is likely to be discharged today.”
Speaking of Ponniyin Selvan, the period drama will release in two installments and it features the ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaraman, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, among others. The first instalment PS 1 is slated to release on September 30 worldwide in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. The teaser of the film was recently unveiled by multiple superstars, which included Amitabh Bachchan, Suriya, Mohanlal, Rakshit Shetty, and Mahesh Babu. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam along with him producing it under his banner Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.
