The survivour, Malayalam actress Bhavana Menon, of a kidnapping and sexual assault in 2017 has finally broken her silence in her fight against actor Dileep. She spoke out for the first time about her struggle to live with reality following the attack on her. And how she went from being a "victim to a survivor."

The survivour expressed gratitude to everyone who stood with her during "attempts to humiliate, silence, and isolate" her. She also stated that she was adamant about continuing to fight for justice. "This has not been an easy journey. The journey from being a victim to becoming a survivor. For 5 years now, my name and my identity have been suppressed under the weight of the assault inflicted on me. Though I am not the one who has committed the crime, there have been many attempts to humiliate, silence and isolate me. But at such times I have had some who stepped forward to keep my voice alive," she wrote on Instagram on Monday.

In the aftermath of her statement, several actors and filmmakers, including Prithviraj, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Anna Ben, Geetu Mohandas, Nimisha Sajayan vocalist Chinmayi Sripada, Mohanlal, Mammootty, producer Supriya Menon, have expressed support with her.

On their own Instagram profiles, they have also shared the survivour's message.

In February 2017, the victim was sexually assaulted while being kept hostage in her own car by a group of men. The case sparked outrage across the country and became a national sensation after prominent actor Dileep was named as one of the main suspects during the inquiry. Dileep was allegedly suspected of employing a gang of thugs to assassinate the survivour in order to settle personal grudges. He was arrested and detained in jail for over three months for the same offense.

The survivour has also expressed her dissatisfaction with the ongoing court case, which has been marred by a number of scandals. She wrote to Kerala's Chief Minister, urging that a strong public prosecutor be appointed in the case, as well as a look into new claims leveled against Dileep.
