Malayalam actor-producer Vijay Babu booked for rape; absconds : Bollywood News

A female actor has come forward and filed a complaint against Malayalam film actor-producer Vijay Babu for alleged rape case. The case has been filed in Ernakulam in Kerala. Since the complaint was filed, Vijay Babu is absconding and the police have issued a lookout notice for him.

On the night of April 26, Vijay Babu went live on Facebook and named the complainant, hence violating the law. He also claimed that he is the victim in the matter.

“I respect the law of the land but here I am the victim and my name has come out. So why shouldn't the other party's name come out too," Vijay claimed in his Live video and named the young actor. He also said that the actor got the chance to act in one of his films through the process of audition and he “never chatted with her” all that time.

"Let this be a break to Me Too," he says, referring to the Me Too movement that had seen several women open up about the abuses they have been through at the hands of powerful men. Vijay Babu claimed that the woman began messaging him towards the end of late-year and they met in March this year. He also said that he is ready to publish 400 screenshots of the messages exchanged between them.

Reportedly, police sources have said that the alleged rape took place in April. However, in his Facebook Live, he did not mention what transpired in April. Meanwhile, a few years ago, actor and co-producer Sandra Thomas had filed a case of assault against Vijay Babu, which was later withdrawn. Back then, too, Vijay had gone live on Facebook to proclaim his innocence.

Vijay Babu is charged under sections 376 (sexual assault), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
