Prime Video has announced the global streaming premiere of Vaa Vaathiyaar, starring Karthi as the protagonist alongside Krithi Shetty as the female lead, with the film set to debut on the platform on January 28. The Tamil adventure-comedy will be available to audiences in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner, Vaa Vaathiyaar brings together humour, emotion, and elements of nostalgia. The film is positioned as a family-friendly entertainer and draws inspiration from the enduring legacy of legendary actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).
The supporting cast includes Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, Karunakaran, G.M. Sundar, Shilpa Manjunath, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, Vadivukkarasi, Nizhalgal Ravi, and P.L. Thenappan, forming a strong ensemble of seasoned performers.
Vaa Vaathiyaar revolves around the story of Ramu, played by Karthi, who is raised by his grandfather, a devoted admirer of MGR. The grandfather believes that his grandson shares a special connection with the iconic star and instils those ideals in him from a young age. As Ramu grows up to become a cheerful and spirited police officer, a series of unexpected events places his grandfather in danger. This turning point forces Ramu to take on greater responsibility and confront challenges that push him to evolve beyond his carefree nature.
The film combines adventure and comedy while exploring themes of legacy, belief, and personal growth. Adding to its appeal is the music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, whose energetic soundtrack complements the film’s tone and narrative.
