In a move that reflects sensitivity to the current national mood, veteran actor-producer Kamal Haasan has announced the postponement of the audio launch of his much-anticipated film Thug Life. The event, which was originally scheduled for May 16, has been called off in light of the heightened tensions along India’s border.

The decision was formally conveyed in a heartfelt statement issued under Haasan’s banner, RaajKamal Films International. The statement read, “Art can wait. India comes first. In view of the developments at our nation's border and the current state of heightened alert, we have decided to reschedule the audio launch of Thug Life, originally planned for the 16th of May.” Haasan added, “As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration. A new date will be announced at a later, more appropriate time. At this time, our thoughts are with the brave men and women of our armed forces who stand vigilant, safeguarding our nation. As citizens, it is our duty to respond with restraint and solidarity. Celebration must make way for reflection.”

Thug Life is not only a major release of 2025 but also marks the cinematic reunion of Kamal Haasan with master filmmaker Mani Ratnam, their last collaboration being the cult classic Nayakan in 1987. The upcoming film promises an ensemble cast featuring Haasan himself, along with Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.

The film’s technical crew is equally noteworthy, with music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran, and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. Touted as a hard-hitting action drama, Thug Life is scheduled for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2025.

While fans will have to wait a little longer for the film’s music launch, Haasan’s decision has drawn appreciation for prioritizing national sentiment over promotional activities. A new date for the audio launch will be shared once the situation eases.
