The piracy controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan, the much-anticipated final film of Vijay, has taken a significant turn with the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing arresting six individuals for their alleged involvement in leaking and circulating the film’s content online. According to officials, the accused have been booked on charges related to piracy and unauthorised distribution of copyrighted material. They have been remanded to judicial custody after being found responsible for sharing the film across multiple digital platforms without obtaining any legal permissions or agreements.

The case was initiated following a formal complaint, which led to the registration of an FIR at the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre. Authorities have invoked multiple legal provisions, including sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Copyright Act, and the Cinematograph Act. To tackle the issue comprehensively, specialised teams within the Cyber Crime Wing were deployed, where one group concentrated on identifying and blocking pirated links while the others carried out other functions like digital forensic examinations, tracking the digital footprints of those responsible for uploading and disseminating the illegal copies, among others.

Investigators uncovered that the accused allegedly relied on cloud-based storage services and shared drive links to circulate pirated versions of the film. Electronic devices and other forms of digital evidence have been seized during the operation to support the case. While the arrested individuals remain in judicial custody, in a parallel effort to curb the spread of pirated material, authorities even initiated the move of disabling more than 300 infringing links associated with Jana Nayagan. Additional takedown requests remain in progress as officials continue to monitor online platforms closely.

The Cyber Crime Wing has also issued a public advisory cautioning users against engaging with pirated content, further instating it as a major punishable offence and warned of strict legal consequences for violators. Authorities have also stated that individuals promoting or distributing this pirated content through social media, messaging apps, or websites will also face stringent action.

Meanwhile, KVN Productions reiterated its stance against piracy, urging audiences to immediately delete unauthorised links and refrain from sharing them. The production house also warned that legal measures would be pursued against offenders. Thalapathy Vijay, however, has maintained silence on the matter because he is busy with his political commitments.
