Delhi Commission for Women has demanded action to be taken by November 17 on the perpetuator, in a statement.

The Rashmika Mandanna deepfakes, which has created quite a bit of stir among the entertainment industry, has now received a legal notice. The actress had taken to social media promising to take action against the perpetuators, and the Delhi Police has registered a case under multiple sections at the Special Cell police station against the deepfake AI generated video of the actress.

In a statement given by the Delhi Police, that they have registered the case under Sections 465, 469 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and section 66C and 66E of the IT Act, 2000 against the deepfakes and the case is currently under investigation. However, no arrest has been made by far in the case.  On the other hand, on November 10, Delhi Commission for Women has also requested for a legal action in an official statement released by them on social media.

The statement read, “The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance on media reports of a deepfake video of an Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna circulating widely on several social media platforms. Reportedly, the actress has also raised her concerns in the matter and has stated that someone has illegally morphed her picture in the video.”

In the same statement, the DCW also revealed about how the culprit is yet to be found and added, “The Commission has learnt that till date no arrests have been made in the case. This is a very serious matter.” After requesting for a thorough investigation and few other documents, in the statement, the DCW has also asked for an update in the case by November 17.


For the unversed, Rashmika Mandanna came across a morphed video of her wherein she is seen wearing a black deep-neck singlet which went viral on social media. The video was later released to be somebody else’s and the actress face was expected to have been added to it. Followed by her, many other celebrities were also expected to have fallen prey to this concept.
