It's what the new age cinema tries to do. They bring realism to films; they make you want to believe. Katrina is believable as Jennifer, like a typical catholic Bandra girl who is an orphan, works in the library and the money she would make from her day job is all she has in the form of disposable income. Not exactly the typical upper middle class bourgeois chick with a credit card at her disposal and a credit limit that goes onto five figures. Jenny is someone who cannot afford the accessories of the world and makes do with a simple wardrobe and no add-ons. So what makes this look work like a wonder?
The entire look is put together by Shyamli Arora. She isn't a typical Bollywood designer and credits her work in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani to Katrina who got her on board. She discloses, "Katrina got me in the film because she believed that the character required an entirely no-Bollywood look. A fresh perspective was required. Knowing Katrina, it's no surprise, as she is always completely involved in her look, be it a video, photo shoot, commercial or a film." - Read More">The only glamour quotient in the film came with the song ‘Tu Jaane Na‘ which was shot as a dream sequence. The only glamour quotient in the film came with the song 'Tu Jaane Na' which was shot as a dream sequence. All in all, in a made up, overdone, plastic faced Bollywood, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has given way to fresh, young, preppy look in this industry. The film has scored a brownie point for its reconstruction of the overly glamorous Indian film industry. - Shyamli was given a very clear brief by director Rajkumar Santoshi. Shyamli was given a very clear brief by director Rajkumar Santoshi. Shyamli says, "He told me very clearly that the film should not be remembered for its costumes but for the characters I create." In short he wanted to keep it simple, and simple it was. Katrina's look is what is generally associated with Catholic girls, all of cotton and lots of checks. It was far from spectacular but it gave us an opportunity to see Katrina in a very feminine, young, girly look which is closer to her age rather than her portrayal of a relatively older woman who would suit the likes of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Audience, who have always seen Kat being depicted as a diva, too noticed the welcome change that came along with the simple make up, loose hair and summer dresses.
