Pedro Pascal has shared new insights into the emotional core of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, opening up about Din Djarin’s evolving relationship with Grogu and the fears that shape his journey in the upcoming film.

Since Grogu first appeared in The Mandalorian, audiences across the world have remained emotionally invested in the bond between the young Force-sensitive creature and Din Djarin, popularly known as Mando. Speaking during promotions for the film, Pedro Pascal revealed that the new chapter will explore Din’s growing realisation that Grogu will outlive him by centuries — a thought that deeply influences his protective instincts.

“They are real partners, at this point. Grogu is on every mission, on every adventure, they are side by side. And it's sentimental, because Din Djarin knows that this creature will outlive him, and I think that, existentially, he's very, very focused on making sure that he can survive in a world without him,” said Pascal.

The actor further explained that despite Grogu possessing extraordinary powers, Din continues to struggle with emotions familiar to every parent. “And of course, the power that Grogu has surpasses Mando's by a lot. And yet none of us wants to let go of our child, and none of us wants to keep that child from growing into everything that they can do. So that's really, I think, the very, very textured relationship and story that they're able to tell on a thrill ride that you cannot believe."

The upcoming film is set after the fall of the Empire, during a period when scattered Imperial warlords continue to create unrest across the galaxy. As the New Republic attempts to maintain peace, Din Djarin and Grogu become involved in new missions and adventures across the Star Wars universe.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the film has been written by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. The project is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has been filmed for IMAX and is scheduled to release exclusively in theatres on May 22, 2026, in English and Hindi.
