Actor Anne Hathaway has shared her first reaction to the script of The Devil Wears Prada 2, as she prepares to reprise her role as Andy Sachs nearly two decades after the original film. The actor spoke about the much-anticipated sequel during a fan event in Tokyo on April 6, where she appeared alongside co-star Meryl Streep.

Opening up about reading the script, Hathaway said her immediate thought was centered around Streep’s reaction. “My first thought was ‘Did Meryl read it yet? What did she think?’ And then I heard yes, Meryl did read it and she loved it. Well this has to be amazing.”
The sequel brings back key cast members from the original film, including Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, along with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna. Reflecting on the storyline, Hathaway added, “I read it and it was beyond what I hoped for. I think over the years we’ve all wondered what Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel were up to and I guarantee you, anything we thought of did not come close to what Aline Brosh McKenna has come up with for all of us.”
She also described the experience of returning to the project as fulfilling. “It was a joy to make it,” Hathaway said, hinting at both the creative satisfaction and the nostalgia associated with the sequel.
In addition to the returning cast, the film introduces several new faces including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, and B.J. Novak, among others. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also reprise their roles from the original.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to release in cinemas on May 1, 2026, under 20th Century Studios.
