The year is coming to an end and December 2023 has got a lot riding on in terms of delivering a promise of stellar stories and also bringing the year to a delightful conclusion. Some of the most favourite actors are making a much-awaited comeback. Song Kang will be seen once again in Sweet Home as Cha Hyun Soo, a saviour of the world straight out of Green Home. Ji Chang Wook, who has taken the fans by storm with his role as Song Mo in The Worst of Evil is all set to embrace the sedentary lifestyle in a small town in the drama Welcome to Samdalri. First All of Us Are Dead, and now Night Has Come. Then we have a much-awaited sequel for Soundtrack #1, which is aptly titled Soundtrack #2. Jang Na Ra and Son Ho Jun whom we all loved seeing on screen in Go Back Couple will return as a loving couple once again in My Happy Ending. But this time, it is beyond finding the lost love back. Then there’s also the Korean remake Maestra: Strings of Truth based on the French show Philharmonia. Let’s take a detailed look at the upcoming K-dramas that will be released in December 2023.

A woman who is desperate for love but has had a run of bad luck. An angel who wishes to restore his powers and regain his angelic wings. What happens when two such characters cross paths? You get My Man is Cupid. Starring Nana, whom we recently saw in Mask Girl, as a vet named Baek Ryun who has had a string of bad dates after each man she dates faces a near-death experience. Desperate for love and wanting to be rid of her bad luck, she resorts to help from tarot and shamans. One day she meets Cheon Sang Hyuk. Cheon Sang Hyuk is an angel whose wings were burned off 500 years ago after an incident. He is desperate to regain his wings. He is quite charming and handsome to make any woman fall in love with him. Despite not intending to, Cheon Sang Hyuk starts to fall for Baek Ryun. My Man is Cupid premieres on Amazon Prime Video in select regions on December 1, 2023.

2. SWEET HOME 2

The month of December is starting with the much-awaited and much-anticipated sequel to the dystopian show Sweet Home. Season 2 of Sweet Home picks up where the first season left off. Song Kang returns as Cha Hyun Soo who is captured by the antagonist and must find his way out and also save the world with his abilities. Lee Jin Wook, Park Gyu Young, Go Min Si, and Lee Si Young will also reprise their roles. The residents of Green Home fought the monsters off in season one but new challenges await them this season. Sweet Home Season 2 finds its home on Netflix where it will premiere on December 2, 2023.

3. WELCOME TO SAMDALRI

Ji Chang Wook wowed the audience with The Worst of Evil. After that successful run as an undercover cop in a mafia, he is now to wow the audience once again. But this time, he is a small-town guy named Jo Young Pil who is a determined weather forecaster. Casted opposite Ji Chang Wook is Shin Hye Sun as his childhood friend Jo Sam Dal who leaves the town for better opportunities as a fashion photographer in the city. When her life in the city takes a hit, Sam Dal returns to Samdalri. Her return paves the way for the childhood friends to sort out their feelings and turn a new leaf in their lives. Some say it reminds them of the idyllic setting of Hometown Cha Cha Cha. We’ll find out how much that holds true and more when the drama premieres on JTBC and Netflix on December 2, 2023.

4. NIGHT HAS COME

We all must have played the game of mafia at some camping, a retreat or a social excursion. Well, at least seen or heard of it. It does get pretty challenging when it is without any stakes. Imagine what would happen if the game got real, literally. A group of high school students go on a retreat and end up playing a very real game of mafia with their lives at stake. The events that lead to the game and follow after are chronicled in the drama Night Has Come. Popular names like Lee Jae Iin, Kim Woo Seok, Choi Ye Bin, Cha Woo Min, Ahn Ji Ho and Jeong So Ri whom we have seen in other high school dramas will play pivotal roles. The night of Night Has Come will fall on December 6, 2023. It will be available to view on U+ Mobile TV and also on Viki in some regions.

5. SOUNDTRACK #2

We all loved seeing Han Seon Woo and Lee Eun Su ignite a tale of romance in Soundtrack #1 with the soundtrack of their career and life playing along the way. Following a similar pattern, Soundtrack #2 brings the viewers another couple who were close but then reality knocked on the doors. Hyun Seo and Soo Ho had big dreams and ambitions during their university days. But unfortunately, they were separated. When their paths cross years later, they rediscover that joy of the younger days and find some love within them for each other. Geum Sae Rok, Steve Noh and DEMIAN form the cast. The tunes of Soundtrack #2 begin to play on December 6, 2023 on Disney+.

6. MAESTRA: STRINGS OF TRUTH

Looks like there is something for fans of music and fans of mystery wrapped into one K-drama. Maestra: Strings of Truth is the Korean remake of the French show Philharmonia. The drama chronicles the life of Cha Se Eum, an orchestra conductor who harbours a secret. Strange incidents happen in her orchestra and the investigation leads her to face her past demons. Her success also leads to her marital life taking a hit as her husband starts to feel inferior to her. The drama premieres on December 9 on TvN.

7. DEATH’S GAME

The drama which each K-drama fan is eagerly waiting for is Death’s Game. Jokingly called the drama with every K-drama actor you can think of, Death’s Game is based on a webtoon of the same name. It stars Park So Dam and Seo In Guk in the lead as Death and Choi Yi Jae respectively. Yi Jae attempts to take his life after losing all his money but his indifference towards the act irks Death itself. So she makes him pay for it by cursing him to experience 12 lives and deaths before his soul can attain salvation. But there’s a loophole. If he manages to escape Death in any of those 12 lives, then he can continue living. What will Yi Jae do? Let’s all find out on December 15 when the drama begins airing on TvN and also on Amazon Prime Video in select regions.

8. LIKE FLOWERS IN SAND

Like Flowers in Sand chronicles the life of Kim Baek Doo (played by Jang Dong Yoon), a Korean wrestling champion. He mulls over retiring from the sport when his team is scheduled to disband. His childhood friend Oh Yoo Kyung takes over as the team’s new manager and Kim Baek Doo finds hope that he can still make it in his career. The drama enters the ring on December 20 on ENA.

9. GYEONGSEONG CREATURE

Fans of Park Seo Joon, Han So Hee and the horror genre have quite the reason to dub December as a merry month indeed. Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee are set to uncover deep and dark secrets about a hospital in 1945. Jang Tae Sang is an informant and Yoon Chae Sok is an investigator who joins hands to uncover the mystery behind disappearances in the Gyeongseong region. It is unveiled the creature was born out of human greed and is only gaining strength. Tae Sang and Chae Sok run against time to stop this creation in Gyeongseong Creature. The drama is set to premiere on December 22 on Netflix.

 10. MY HAPPY END

They impressed us as a fighting couple in Go Back Couple and now they are back as a happy couple in My Happy End. The couple is none other than Jang Na Ra and Son Ho Jun as Seo Jae Won and Heo Soon Young. The two have a daughter and have a happy life together with ample riches and a social reputation. But things start to go awry when Jae Won’s classmate Kwon Yun Jin reconnects with her. Yun Jin has had a bad marriage and a lacklustre career and grows jealous of Seo Won’s personal and professional accomplishments.
