The weather in November has been cold and hot without any warnings. But thankfully, that was not the case with K-pop releases in November. The artists teased the fans with a promise of new music and they delivered. BTS’ Jung kook’s solo release GOLDEN was met with a lot of positive reviews. The youngest member of BTS proved his versatility once again as a multi-faceted musician. VIXX, who were missing from the scene for quite some time, made a comeback! Red Velvet was also present to fill in the gothic shoes. Let’s take a look at the popular Korean releases in November 2023.From BTS’ Jung Kook to SEVENTEEN’s DINO – Here’s a round-up of Korean music releases of November 2023
1. BTS JUNG KOOK – STANDING NEXT TO YOU
BTS’ youngest one decided that he would show the world his artistry and made his solo debut with his EP ‘Golden’. The album was undoubtedly one of November’s most anticipated releases. The title track of the EP ‘Standing Next To You’ is a retro funk track with a modern interpretation of the old-school disco funk sound, showing the pinnacle of Jung Kook's artistry and stage presence as he continues his upward trajectory as the global pop star.
2. GOLDEN CHILD – FEEL ME
Golden Child members don a mature look with their latest comeback track ‘Feel Me.’ The track speaks about living in the moment despite the struggles or worries one might face about their future. ‘Feel Me’ gives a message of hope to the listeners that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The lyrics weave their way in and out of the semi-rock composition, highlighting the heavy nature of the emotions conveyed.
3. GOT7’s YOUNGJAE – DO IT
GOT7 member Youngjae channels his flowery soft side for ‘Do It.’ He goes back to the pastel yet bright-coloured frames that paint a dreamy picture for an equally dreamy track. ‘Do It’ is a soft pop track which echoes the sweet emotions of a crush on someone.
4. OMEGA X – JUNK FOOD
Who would have thought that daily-life activities like food delivery, receipts and waiting lines can be incorporated in a song to convey a dark yet honest confession of love and need for a person? OMEGA X certainly paid attention and presented the fans with ‘Junk Food’. The track employs a stunning mix of rap, hip hop and techno beats. The background harmonization adds an auditory depth to the track.
5. STRAY KIDS – LALALA
Is it ever a Stray Kids composition if there are no stunning musical elements right from the first second of the song? ‘Lalalala’ is no exception. The track begins with a catchy tune and progresses into a thrumming musical space filled with unabashed confidence. The group once again shows why they are here and the answer is ‘to rock!’ Employing themes of pirates, heists, and even sand monsters, Stray Kids make use of stretchy techno and hip-hop beats to proclaim their stand in the world of K-pop.
6. RED VELVET – CHILL KILL
After ‘Psycho’, it seems that Red Velvet have found their sweet spot in the darker themes. The group returns once again with a gothic theme with ‘Chill Kill’. Their voices are cold and hold emotion just enough to convey what the lyrics aim for. Perfectly in line with a Wednesday Addams likening. The music is limited and gives space for the vocals to shine through. The orchestral elements paired with rapid techno beats intensify the chill in this killing track.
7. ENHYPEN – SWEET VENOM
ENHYPEN have taken it upon themselves to play off the gothic and dark themes. First, it was ‘Bite Me’ and now it is ‘Sweet Venom’. ‘Sweet Venom’ likens love to a poison that is bound to kill but a desperate need for survival. The track is a funky disco number. If you were unaware of the lyrics’ meaning, you might just think they are talking about a drink.
8. VIXX – AMNESIA
It has been quite a while since we all last heard VIXX, no? The wait came to an end with the group’s latest song ‘Amnesia’. Sporting mullets and tech-wear-like clothes, for the most part, VIXX sing about a love-induced amnesia. The R&B track feels grand when listening and the visuals are no less. N’s absence is quite noted in this comeback, but let’s hope the next album includes his voice too!
9. DREAMCATCHER – OOTD
With ‘OOTD’, Dreamcatcher sings about their identity and owning up to its uniqueness. Each person has their own style and sense of dressing and Dreamcatcher is here with an anthem for those unafraid to flaunt their choices. The track not only applies to clothes but also to one’s true self. The stretched-out beats and rock-like elements lend a smooth finesse to the lyrics.
10. DINO (SEVENTEEN) – WAIT
SEVENTEEN’s DINO showcases his versatility with a solo music release ‘Wait’. The song features jazz elements paired with glitch music. His voice shines brightly on this track. ‘Wait’ adds another feather to Dino’s cap proving his versatility as a musician.
