Director Christopher McQuarrie explains the decision to kill major character in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

With Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One running in theatres, Tom Cruise is back on screens as Ethan Hunt on another eventful mission. However, on this one, he loses one of his troupe members and it really shocked the audiences.

Spoiler Alert - Rebecca Ferguson who plays Ilsa Faust dies during her fight against Gabriel. In an interview with USA Today, director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie explained the decision behind killing her. He said, “It was one we knew we had to make for the movie to have stakes and for the movie to remain ‘Mission.’ 'Mission' is primarily Ethan's journey (and) there is this continuum that the people closest to him, he tends to lose them. It was a really tricky conversation for us to have, and we knew that there would be some reactions to that, but we also knew this is the reality of the world that's been created over seven movies.”

Joining Tom Cruise in the seventh adventure are Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Pom Klementieff and Esai Morales. The stills show enthralling action set pieces, train sequences, bike and car chases, among others. The film promises larger-than-life action, set pieces that were built from scratch and much more.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

The movie is a two-part story with Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part II arriving in theatres next year.
