The Original movie is produced by Amazon Studios collaborating with Kross Pictures, a Korean film production company, which tells the story of professional boxer Ran Tachibana, played by Ayaka Miyoshi. The webtoon Knuckle Girl is distributed in Japan by Piccoma, also known for Itaewon Class. "I am thrilled that Knuckle Girl will be streamed worldwide, and hope audiences will enjoy my character," said lead actress and model Ayaka Miyoshi, who underwent six months of hard training for the role of Ran Tachibana. "The role of Ran was very challenging. I’m new to boxing, but had to look like a pro. I hope viewers worldwide will enjoy this ambitious Japanese-Korean collaboration."
"Ayaka captures the role of Ran perfectly," said Chang, director of Knuckle Girl. "I was impressed by her strong will, her focus during training and filming, and her enthusiasm in working with the Korean creators. Ayaka went through such hard training and a tough filming schedule. I’m proud of the whole crew. The Japanese staff is very attentive to detail, and it was a wonderful production environment that blended the strengths of both the Japanese and Korean staff. Worldwide audiences can look forward to this film which combines the best of Japanese and Korean filming styles."
"This is the first live-action adaptation of an original webcomic and our first Japanese-Korean collaboration, and I can’t be happier with the result,” said James Farrell, vice president, Local Originals, Amazon Studios. "We would like to thank Ayaka Miyoshi, director Chang, our partners at Kross Pictures and the whole Japanese-Korean crew, for delivering such an amazing film. We can’t wait for viewers around the globe to watch it."
"From the very beginning of the production, we started facing many challenges, mainly due to the different working styles between Japan and Korea,“ said Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, CEO of Kross Pictures. “However, with determination and cooperation from all staff, we were able to overcome those issues one by one, and successfully produce a cross-border film that we are extremely proud of.”
