Vidya Balan says she doesn’t know about pay parity because she is not doing films opposite ‘big heroes’ : Bollywood News

Among many other aspects of the entertainment business, pay disparity has often grabbed the attention of many. Now, days after Priyanka Chopra Jonas revealed that she received equal pay as her male co-star just once, for Citadel, in her two-decade-long career, Vidya Balan has also opened up about the matter. Speaking of the same, the actress stated that she is happy with what she is being paid in the context of her films.

For the unversed, Vidya participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by News18. A bunch of her contemporaries including Mrunal Thakur, Nimrat Kaur and Huma Qureshi also joined her. When the topic of pay parity was raised during the conversation, Balan said, “I don't know about pay parity because I am not doing films alongside the 'big heroes.' I think that's where it comes into play. But if you had to see the overall percentage of what I get paid... within the budget of a film to what a hero gets paid, I think the percentage is the same.”

The Sherni actress further added, “Now their films cost 10 times more than what my films do, so obviously I am getting paid ten times less. But, within my construct I am happy.” Responding to Vidya’s remark, Nimrat asserted, “That's a very healthy way of looking at it”, while saying that what an actor is paid is directly proportional to the number of people they are going to bring to the film.

Coming to the professional front, Vidya was last seen in Suresh Triveni's Jalsa where she played a journalist. She has multiple projects in her kitty including an untitled film opposite Scam 1992 actor Pratik Gandhi. The forthcoming project will also feature Ileana D'cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy in pivotal roles.
