The trailer launch of The Vaccine War was held today in a multiplex in Mumbai. The event was memorable due to the presence of Nana Patekar. The veteran actor faced the media after ages and was in his element, as expected.

Towards the end of the event, Nana Patekar was asked about the parallel cinema movement and whether The Vaccine War is a part of it. While answering this question, Nana Patekar revealed that he struggled to finish a recently released super-hit film. The actor, however, didn’t name the movie.

Nana Patekar said, “That era of commercial and parallel cinema doesn’t exist anymore. After the advent of OTT, all the films got a platform. Toh parallel cinema ka daur raha nahin. Jo raha hai woh yeh hai ki aap kaunsa thought rakhte hai. Nowadays, certain kinds of films are becoming hits. Recently, a film became a huge hit. I went to watch it. Main woh film poori dekh nahin paa raha tha. Lekin woh film bahut chal rahi hai. Since it has worked, I feel that we’ll repeatedly make such films and compel viewers to like such films.”

Nana Patekar also slammed the trend of giving repeated chances to star kids, “I am an actor. Tomorrow, I might want to launch my son as an actor, chahe uski aukat ho ya na ho. But I want to force him on the viewers. If his first film flops, I’ll make another one and so on. Dus filmon ke baad aapko uski buraiyaan kam nazar aane lagti hai. And slowly, you accept him. Fir ek din hamare sar pe woh baithta hai. That’s what is happening in our movies nowadays. Similarly, they force us to watch certain ghinauni films. Slowly, we start believing that ‘yehi acchi film hai’.”

He continued, “In between, when you get a film like The Vaccine War, you realize that there’s a difference (between this and the other films).”

Nana Patekar was also asked about not being a part of Welcome To The Jungle. His character Uday Shetty has achieved iconic status and was a part of both the earlier movies. Interestingly, as soon as the journalist said, “Welcome To The Jungle has been announced,” Nana cut her and said, “Jo hum nahin kar rahe hai.” When asked the reason behind it, he replied, “Unko lagta hai hum purane ho gaye hai. Isliye, shayad unhone mujhe nahin liya. Inko (points at The Vaccine War director Vivek Agnihotri) lagta hai ki hum purane nahin hue hai. Isliye, inhone le liya. Simple.”
