“I think there’s more to Sunny Leone than what people give her credit for,” said Jasmine D’Souza in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive video interview to Faridoon Shahryar at the on location of her directorial debut One Night Stand at an exotic resort in Phuket, Thailand. The contentious ‘one night stand’ between the lead stars Sunny Leone and Tanuj Virwani will be shot here. “I needed something magical, mesmerizing, a place where you lose all inhibitions, that’s why Phuket,” Jasmine said with a smile. The film is produced by Swiss Entertainment.
The weather is hot and humid but it is suddenly breached by an onslaught of rain that makes the proceedings pleasant. On top of it, the cool sea breeze and the magnificently green sea rocked by playful waves made the first day go by in a breeze. The multitasking director Jasmine managed some key sequences of Tanuj Virwani and also expertly coordinated with her team in chaste Marathi. A good director has to be a people’s person and D’Souza fits the bill perfectly. Also she’s the lady of her house back in Mumbai. I keenly observed as she chatted away merrily with her son on Skype post a hectic day. It seemed as if this was her best stress buster.
Talking about the film, Jasmine has an interesting take on the gender inequality that surrounds a phenomenon like One Night Stand. “I think somewhere when sex is in question the values, morals and ethics are different for a guy and a girl. A guy is a stud but if a girl does the same thing she’s looked at differently. The repercussions should be the same for both,” Jasmine said thoughtfully. “We have brilliant directors who’ve handled the subject of sex and sexuality really well and sensitively. In my film it will be from a woman’s perspective,” she said.
The entire team came together for a nice Indian lunch. Whenever any production unit travels outside India, one of the most important priorities for the production team is to get a good caterer who can make delicious Indian delicacies topped up by paapad, salad, rasgullas and laddoos. What keeps the hard working technicians going on foreign shores is good food (apart from money of course).
When Sunny Leone is starring in a film, people will have expectations about skin show. “Where it’s essential, the skin show is there, we do have love making sequences. It’s an integral part of the script,” D’Souza said. “We tend to label Sunny because of her past. I think I have more to show of Sunny in my film than what she has ever been presented before,” Jasmine signed off confidently.
The serene pool in the Phuket resort was rippled by cool evening breeze. The gloriously green sea prepared for an adventurous night making love to the shapely rocks. It was pack up for the day. Tomorrow morning will be a sweltering one as Sunny Leone will make her striking presence felt.
