Taapsee Pannu has built a career around content-driven cinema, often headlining films that address social themes. From Pink and Thappad to Mulk, Badla and Rashmi Rocket, the actor has frequently taken on roles that revolve around women’s rights, social stigma and personal agency.
In a recent interaction, Taapsee spoke about how international brands that had not previously collaborated with Indian faces came on board with her. Reflecting on this shift, she said, “I think the credit goes to all the women and men who wanted to move forward together.” She further explained that brands were drawn to her straightforward approach. “There were some brands who had never taken an Indian face on an international standard... They felt that their customer base... when you say something, you say it from your heart. You say the truth. So your honesty resonates with our customers.”
Taapsee added that such collaborations come with responsibility. “It makes you feel like you have a huge responsibility... I can't endorse anything that I don't actually believe in”, she said.
Over the years, the actor has taken on diverse roles, from the action-driven spy thriller Naam Shabana to character-led dramas and even mainstream entertainers like Dunki. Her filmography reflects a mix of commercial and issue-based cinema, often placing her at the centre of the narrative.
Speaking of Taapsee’s upcoming project, Assi, is an investigative courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. Similar to Mulk, this film yet again features Taapsee Pannu in the role of a lawyer fighting for a rape survivor. The narrative plays a key role in addressing the nonchalant and often careless handling of sexual assault cases. The film is expected to draw inspiration from real-life events. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on February 20, 2026.
As she prepares for the release of Assi, Taapsee continues to balance her film commitments with brand associations, maintaining that credibility and personal conviction remain central to her decisions.
