In the past few years, the sports biopic genre has gained popularity among moviegoers. After films like MS Dhoni: The untold story, Azhar, ‘83, and Sachin: A billion dreams, a biopic on former cricketer Sourav Ganguly is in the pipeline. Recently, Dada shared an update on the status of the biopic.

For the unversed, Sourav Ganguly left for Mumbai on Monday evening with his friend Sanjay Das for a meeting regarding his biopic. Talking about the purpose of his travel, the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was quoted by News 18 saying, “I will be in Mumbai for several works. There are discussions regarding the script of the biopic.”

He further elaborated, “I am writing the script myself. The screenplay will be discussed with Luv Production House. For several months, the work of making the biopic did not progress much. In fact, due to my and the production house’s tight schedule, the work was not picking up pace. This time, it will be done quickly.”

Speaking of its casting, Ganguly said, “No final decision has been taken. I hope we can share something positive after the meeting.” Meanwhile, when asked about the release date, the former left-handed batsman added, “All this has not been finalised yet. Script writing is almost done. Now, the next work will start.”

Several media reports floating on the internet claim that the production company is thinking about Ranbir Kapoor, who is also the cricketer’s choice. However, neither the cricketer nor the actor nor the producer has confirmed the same.

Talking about Ranbir Kapoor, he is gearing up for his next release Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor. The rom-com is slated to release on March 8, 2023. The Luv Ranjan directorial will also mark the acting debut of producer Boney Kapoor and stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi.
