Shantanu Maheshwari gets nostalgic about Gangubai Kathiawadi as his debut film completes a year : Bollywood News

Shantanu Maheshwari made his big screen debut with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt as the leading lady. The film celebrates its first anniversary today and on the occasion, the dancer turned actor recalled his memories associated with the film. Readers would recall that Shantanu played the role of Afsaan, who appeared in soulful tracks like ‘Jab Saiyaan’ and ‘Meri Jaan’. The actor took to social media to talk about the film and even expressed his gratitude towards Bhansali for giving him this opportunity.

Talking about the film completing one year, Shantanu Maheshwari said, "Wherever I am today and the recognition and love I have received till date from the fans and even in the industry, all the credit goes to Sanjay Leela Bhansali Sir, it is an experience that you can’t describe in words. As an artist he makes you explore places when you are performing which are not easy to explore and once you can explore those areas within you and where the whole performance is coming from, it is a different high altogether."

Readers would recall that Shantanu received a lot of love and appreciation from the audiences as well as from within the industry for his portrayal of Afsaan. The portrayal of Afsaan is said to have left an indelible effect on the minds of the audience owing to his charm and innocence. In fact, his charismatic chemistry with Gangu is also said to have left an ever-lasting impact.

Along with Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi also featured an ensemble cast that includes Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarab and Seema Pahwa. The biographical drama was loosely based on the life of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi and the film is currently available on Netflix for streaming.
