Actress Sanjana Sanghi has partnered with the The Rockefeller Foundation to highlight the role of clean energy initiatives in supporting women entrepreneurs across rural India. The collaboration, which also involves the foundation’s president Dr. Rajiv Shah, focuses on projects aimed at expanding access to sustainable energy and economic opportunities for women.
As part of the initiative, Sanghi travelled to parts of rural Uttar Pradesh with Shah to observe how clean energy programs are being implemented on the ground. According to the foundation, these interventions are enabling thousands of women to build small enterprises and generate income through climate-focused technologies. Reflecting on her visit, Sanghi said, “Spending time in rural Uttar Pradesh and seeing the resilience of women entrepreneurs has been a deeply moving experience. To see clean energy transition from a technical concept to a real tool that puts money in a woman’s hand and dignity in her life is incredible.” She added that empowering women at the grassroots level often creates ripple effects across communities.
Sanghi, who made her lead debut in the 2020 film Dil Bechara opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, has also been associated with several youth and social initiatives over the years. Apart from her work in films, the actress frequently uses her social media platforms to speak about education, gender equity and youth development, causes she has supported for over a decade.
Sanghi further noted, “My decade-long journey with youth and gender equity has shown me that when you empower a woman, you power a community. I am honoured to partner with Dr. Rajiv Shah and The Rockefeller Foundation to highlight these female-led enterprises that are driving both climate solutions and economic progress.”
The initiative draws attention to more than 100,000 women-led businesses across multiple Indian states that are supported through clean energy access and climate-focused interventions. The programs aim to help women entrepreneurs improve productivity, expand income opportunities and contribute to local economic growth.
