Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was released last week and has got a superb response from moviegoers. However, a section of people had a grouse about the depiction of Jaya Bachchan’s character Dhanlaxmi in the climax. The film ends with the grand wedding of Rocky (Ranveer Singh) and Rani (Alia Bhatt). While the whole family of both the lovebirds are present, the angry and rigid Dhanlaxmi is conspicuous by her absence. Her part ends with her sending a ‘shanti ka prastaav’ to Rani. Moviegoers felt that Dhanlaxmi should have been present on such an important day in the life of Rocky.

At the press conference of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani today, director Karan Johar was asked about it. Amusingly, the moment the question was asked, the lights on the stage went off. Karan joked, “Dhanlaxmi ke mention pe light chali gayi. Light ko bhi Dhanlaxmi se darr lagta hai!”

On a serious note, he answered, “This is a very valid question. We discussed a lot about it. All the characters had a logical and emotional turnaround. But Dhanlaxmi says in the end, ‘Iss umar mein mera ahankaar aur mera ghamand mujhe manne nahin deta ki main galat ho sakti hoon. Phir bhi main tumhe shanti ka prastaav bhej rahi hoon taaki tum uske saath woh na karo jo maine kiya’. In a way, she gave an apology but saath mein apna ahankaar bhi dikhaya. In my opinion, 10 days later, Rocky and Rani go to Dhanlaxmi’s place and take her blessings.”

At this point, Ranveer Singh joked, “Sir, part 2 ki story bata rahe ho!”

Karan Johar laughed and then continued, “Lekin main nahin chahta tha ki har rishte ka turnaround ho. I felt that this doesn’t happen in real. Bahut se log jo apni soch ke saath reh jaate hai. Woh bahut hi rigid hote hai apne thoughts mein aur woh nahin badalte. That’s why I didn’t show her turnaround kyunki asli zindagi mein har ek ka turnaround nahin hota.”
