EXCLUSIVE: Karan Johar spills the beans on the climax of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani; and here’s its connection to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani climax echoes Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Here is how.

In a moment of cinematic brilliance, Karan Johar's highly anticipated film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has left audiences captivated since its release a week ago. Starring the dynamic duo of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the movie not only shines at the box office but also receives glowing reviews from critics and viewers alike. Interestingly, amidst the heartwarming narrative, the film’s climax cleverly brings back memories of Johar's earlier masterpiece, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Warning: Major Spoiler Alert! (For those who haven't watched RARKPK yet, proceed with caution as this article contains spoilers.)

Speaking of the scene, in an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar broke down it to explain the nuance of it. He went on to explain why it was essential to correct Rani for pushing Rocky's father.

If you fondly remember K3G, before the climax, Anjali goes to Rahul after they confront Yash (Amitabh Bachchan) and Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) in the mall. She tries to convince him to apologise to his parents and return to India. However, in his response, Rahul says, “Woh bade hau buzurg hai… lekin dil todne ka haq unko bhi nahi hai (I agree they are elders but even they don’t have the right to break a heart.”

A similar line is echoed in the climax of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. In the film, Rani (Alia Bhatt) argues with Rocky's (Ranveer Singh) father Tijori (Aamir Bashir) after he insults her family. Amid their heated argument, Rani unintentionally pushes Tijori.

This leads to Rocky getting upset with Rani. While trying to explain his point of view, Rocky tells Rani that his father is "elder," and in response, Rani tells him, "Woh bade buzurg hai lekin bezzati karne ka haq unko bhi nahi hai (Even elders don't have the right to disrespect others)."

The similarity between these two lines suggests that Karan Johar is subtly trying to establish a connection between the two films. In both cases, the younger generation is standing up to their elders for their wrongdoings. They are refusing to accept that just because someone is older, they have the right to treat them poorly.
