Veteran actress Rekha took a trip down memory lane at the 25th anniversary celebration of Aamir Khan Productions in Mumbai. During a candid interaction with Aamir Khan, she recalled their unreleased film Time Machine and expressed her long-standing wish to work with the actor again. A video from the event has been making the rounds on social media. In the clip, Rekha is seen speaking warmly about Aamir and sharing a dream she still hopes will come true.

“I must say that I have a dream. I really do wish and pray that it comes true, and that is to work with this boy,” Rekha said while pointing towards Aamir Khan.
The actress then revealed that the collaboration had almost happened years ago. As she referred to the project, Aamir initially struggled to remember the film. Rekha then whispered the title to him, prompting an instant reaction from the actor.
“Oh! We actually shot for it also. Shekhar was making a film called Time Machine. Wo release nahi hui,” Aamir said, recalling the long-abandoned project.

Time Machine was one of the most talked-about unreleased films of the 1990s. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, the film featured Aamir Khan and Rekha in key roles. Despite considerable progress in production, the movie never made it to theatres.

Interesting details about the project emerged in 2021 when the film’s art director, Bijon Das Gupta, spoke to Cinestaan about its development and eventual cancellation. According to Gupta, a substantial portion of the film had already been completed. “Time Machine had almost 10 or 11 reels ready. With a fabulous set, a house and all that. It was Back To The Future with an Indian touch,” he had said.
He further explained that financial difficulties eventually halted the project. “Unfortunately, the producers ran into problems. So they could not go any further. I told Shekhar you take over the project, let's give it to somebody else for production. But by the time it got there, there was a backlog of money the producers owed for various things. The film became the casualty.”
Gupta added that there were discussions about reviving the film once funds became available. However, those plans never materialised. “They told us the moment you get money, we can restart. But you know how it goes, it just got dropped,” he said.
The nostalgic exchange between Rekha and Aamir became one of the highlights of the evening. The event also saw the presence of several Bollywood personalities, including Salman Khan, who attracted attention with his buzz-cut look and fit physique. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Nitanshi Goel and many other celebrities were also in attendance as Aamir Khan Productions marked its milestone anniversary.
