Now this is one fact that indeed takes one for surprise. Amongst her contemporaries who have been around for a decade or more, Bipasha Basu is the only one in the top league who has actually paired up with the largest number of newcomers. This isn’t something that she did only at the beginning of her career or now, but right through the course of her career.
The lady gets talking, and one does realizes that when it comes to her newest co-star Karan Singh Grover getting a break opposite her, he is not ‘alone’!
Yet again, you have a newcomer hero opposite you. You seem to be giving opportunities to quite a few young talent to act opposite you.
From the beginning of my career till now, I have never really looked at who my co-star is going to be. I have had really good equation with all of them and it never really bothers me if he is a newcomer or experienced. As a matter of fact I have worked in maximum movies with newcomers who have become stars now. Whether it’s Neil Nitin Mukesh in his second film (Aa Dekhen Zara), Ranbir Kapoor in his second film (Bachna Ae Haseeno), John Abraham (Jism), Dino Morea (Raaz), Imran Abbas (Creature) or now Karan Singh Grover (Alone); I have never ever shied away.
Since Karan is now, was it like you taking him under your wings and mentoring him during Alone?
I will tell you something. I started my career with Ajnabee where everyone (Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor) was a seasoned actor and I was a debutant. I had to find my way in. See, people can be supportive and sweet; that’s the job of a co-star as you have to be nice to everyone. However when you are beginning your career, you have to find your thing in the industry. No one has to take anyone in wings. Karan is bright; he knows what he is doing. On professional level I didn’t have to tell him anything.
What all did director Bhushan Patel have to tell you when it came to playing Siamese twins? After all, it doesn’t have any precedence amongst Bollywood leading ladies.
While physically it was quite draining and I could feel the pain of girls who had to go through an ordeal like this, personally for me as an actress, it was also about playing two souls that are completely different from each other. And then there is drama, romance and supernatural. It’s very exciting, and the best part is that along with horror, it has become a deep love story. The crux is that of all around passion where this guy (Karan Singh Grover) becomes quite instrumental to the love story. Bhushan knew what he was talking about. With him driving the show, Alone has shaped up very-very well.
