A recent video featuring a Blinkit delivery boy has sparked widespread discussion about the working conditions of gig workers in India. In the video, the delivery boy shared that he earned Rs. 763 after completing 28 deliveries over nearly 15 hours, raising questions about pay structures, working hours, and job security in the platform economy.

Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who had earlier raised concerns during the Winter Session of Parliament about low wages, long working hours, and the lack of social security for gig and platform workers, took note of the video. He publicly expressed support for the delivery boy and reiterated the need for timely reforms to safeguard the rights and dignity of gig workers.
Following the parliamentary session, Chadha invited the delivery boy to his residence for lunch. The meeting was informal and cordial, allowing space for an open and honest conversation. During the interaction, the delivery boy spoke about his day-to-day challenges, including extended working hours, uncertain earnings, algorithm-based targets, and the absence of clear grievance redressal mechanisms or basic social protections.
The delivery boy appeared appreciative of the opportunity to share his experiences and described the interaction as respectful and reassuring. Chadha, in turn, reaffirmed his commitment to raising these concerns at the policy level and emphasised that the growth of India’s gig economy should not come at the expense of workers’ well-being.
The interaction underscored a broader message—that meaningful policy discussions begin by listening directly to those affected on the ground.
