R Balki believes Chup is an attempt to spark a conversation around the audience vs critics’ debate : Bollywood News

Ahead of the digital release of Chup: Revenge of the Artist, director R Balki talked about the “idea behind” the making of the Dulquer Salmaan starrer. The director explained that he wanted to spark a conversation around the ongoing debate of audiences vs critics. While elaborating further on the same, Balki also shared his piece of mind on its OTT release.

As per a report by Financial Express, Balki said, “The idea behind making the movie was to spark a conversation around the ongoing debate of audiences vs critics. It's a film that made the audiences think and decide for themselves as viewers. Now through OTT, the film will reach a different audience. Looking forward to it,” in a statement.

It is worth mentioning that during his interview with the same portal in October this year, the renowned director had recalled that one of the reviews for his 2007 film Cheeni Kum pushed him into depression.

He said, “I didn’t even know what critics were writing about my work reviews until I started reading the reviews. I used to read them if somebody sent them to me and those were usually the positive ones. I was quite depressed after reading a review by a senior journalist for Cheeni Kum.”

Balki further added, “As a first-time filmmaker, you do go into some kind of a deep psychological fear of saying the people are out to trash me. You into your cocoon. It was an agenda-filled review that was very negative and trashed the film. The film was received well but the review damaged me. Chup is like a catharsis for me to take out the fear of these so-called judges waiting to pounce on you.”

Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Deol starrer Chup start streaming on ZEE 5 from November 25 onwards.
