Presenting Anushka ‘Bijlee’ Sharma – Part 3

The going was always fine

Though Anushka was silent for almost a year, it was for a reason. That's because in months to follow, she had two more films with Yash Raj (despite her three film contract being through) and another with Vishal Bhardwaj. She is mixing them up well too. While Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl was a rom-com, Jab Tak Hai Jaan was drama cum romantic while Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola with Vishal is a quirky comedy.

Yet again it's a good set of co-actors that she is enjoying. After Band Baaja Baaraat she reunited with Ranveer Singh on Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl. This time around though the male lead was in a central role and there were as many as three other female co-stars for Anushka to contend with. Going bohemian, she also brought a different facet of her overall personality, hence promising something unique to be delivered to the audience.

She had a lot to cheer about around a year later with none less than 'Moghul of Romance - Yash Chopra directing her in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Though the film also featured Katrina Kaif as another leading lady, Anushka enjoyed a powerful tailor-made role for herself that made her stand tall in front of her experienced co-stars and director.

On the other hand a set up with Vishal Bhardwaj and Imran Khan as a co-star is throwing her in a world that has been hitherto unexplored. First and foremost the film sounds enticing at the title stage itself. So even as one tries to figure out what exactly does Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola lead to, one thing is clear that there would be a different side of Anushka seen once she steps into the character of 'Bijlee'. So far one has seen her playing far more rooted characters that are attached to the real world. However in a film like this which promises to showcase an over-the-top side of Anushka, sky could indeed be a limit for her. Pun intended.

The future looks exciting

While she has already made a good start, a good 'no-nonsense and let my work talk for itself' image with a garnish of 'kabhi haan kabhi naa' love story with Ranveer Singh has ensured that the young woman does stay in news, mostly for the right reasons. Since she comes from a modelling background, thankfully there haven't been many instances of her going wrong when it comes to the style quotient. Moreover her good grooming in the glamour industry has also ensured that she hasn't made any of those outrageous remarks on print that could have put her into trouble and make them retract later. In short, she is doing well in terms of her standing as a 'correct' and 'proper' actress in the industry who could just be making her way to the top when it comes to the Next Gen girls making a mark.

With a film each with Aamir Khan/Rajkumar Hirani [P.K. ] and Ranbir Kapoor/Anurag Kashyap [Bombay Velvet], Anushka would certainly ensure that there is a lot of 'bijlee' she brings on screen for years to come.
