Amazon Studios has revealed the first teaser trailer for upcoming gay romance drama My Policeman, the film adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ queer romance novel of the same name. Harry Styles portrays the younger version of policeman Tom in the queer romance story which centers on a love triangle between three good friends – two men and a woman. Tom sparks a relationship with a handsome museum curator (Dawson's Patrick), while also feeling the societal pressures of 1950s Britain to settle down with a woman, here a schoolteacher Marion (Emma Corrin).
"So how does it make you feel?" Patrick asks Tom as the pair observe a painting at his museum. "You can sense the waves," Tom replies. "You know how strong they are, like swimming in rough surf." The two men say in the background, "You feel they could crush you or take you under," Patrick says, picking up Tom's veiled critique. "You just have to let it take hold of you."
The teaser focuses solely on those past events, in which Tom and Patrick first discovered their feelings for each other at a time when same-sex relationships between men were illegal. The brief clip shows Tom and Marion's happy marriage which is complicated by the presence of Patrick. An official synopsis for the film reads: “My Policeman follows three young people – policeman Tom, teacher Marion, and museum curator Patrick – as they embark on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain.”
Directed by Michael Grandage from a script written by Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner, the film adaptation is led by Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, and David Dawson. It will also feature Linus Roache, Gina McKee, Rupert Everett, and Kadiff Kirwan. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Robbie Rogers produce through their Berlanti Schechter Productions banner along with Cora Palfrey and Philip Herd.
