Parasite star Park So Dam opens up about her prior car accident; she was “afraid” to drive in Special Delivery

South Korean actress Park So Dam, who will play Jang Eun Ha in her first solo lead film Special Delivery, recently talked about her fear of driving in an interview with Moonhwa Ilbo.

According to Korean tabloid Soompi, Park So Dam, commenting on her driving skills, said, “It’s to the extent that I can personally take my grandmother to the hospital, take my parents to go eat something delicious, leave if I want to get a breath of fresh air, and help if someone needs to be picked up.”

“I’ve gotten into a car accident, so before Special Delivery, there were a lot of times I was afraid to just ride the car.”

She then went on to reveal how she managed to overcome her “past fear” to put up with her role and the support she received on set, “However, I had no choice but to keep riding a car while working, so I always went around with a curtain covering the front.”

All the support and guidance resulted in her getting better and feeling more confident about her driving in personal life. “While doing that, I met the best driver Eun Ha, and I drove while receiving protection from many people thanks to Special Delivery, so my past fears disappeared, and I’ve gotten to drive more in my daily life,” she further said.

Park So Dam was also recently diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer during a regular health check-up, as reported by her agency Artist Company in a statement. The company did not reveal when the diagnosis took place, but noted that Park has since undergone surgery to treat the condition under the recommendation of her doctor.

In Special Delivery, Park So Dam stars as Jang Eun Ha, a talented driver who has a 100 percent success rate when it comes to making special deliveries. The tough and daring Eun Ha will deliver anything speedily and securely for a price. However, a series of unexpected events occur when she picks up a child and ends up being pursued by the police.

The film also stars Jung Hyun Joon, Song Sae Byuk, Kim Eui Sung, Yeon Woo Jin, Yeom Hye Ran, and Han Hyun Min. To prepare for her role, Park So Dam received action training three months prior to filming twice a week with the martial arts director and her stunt double.

The film is directed by Park Dae Min and premiers today (January 12).
