If a film is backed by Aanand L Rai then that film must be having something. To have such a goodwill within the industry and otherwise is something that happens rarely. I went to watch the promo of Newton today because Mr Rai is one of the producers and then the film is helmed by Rajkummar Rao who’s a genius of an actor. I was surprised by how good the promo is. The contentious EVM machine is highlighted prominently and the importance of electoral process in a democracy pokes the city-bred-conscience.
The Newton promo boasts of seasoned actors like Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghuvir Yadav, Anjali Patil and Sanjay Mishra. They are a treat to watch, especially Mr Mishra. Rajkummar is excellent with an unusual hair do and every pore of him reeks of tremendous earnestness. I was fortunate to meet Pankaj Tripathi ji at the promo screening today. I was floored by his performance in the recently released film Bareilly Ki Barfi. He was magnificent in Gangs of Wasseypur. I quickly turned a fan boy and clicked a selfie. Everyone is enamoured by the stars but actors like Rajkummar, Tripathi ji, Sanjay Mishra, Anjali Patil and Raghuvir Yadav are meant to be deified. They are that important in gifting shelf life to a film.
I had a short chat with Aanand L Rai sir as well. It is a pleasure talking to the good humoured and pleasant man. He’s as real as his movies. And entertaining too. You guys should eagerly wait for the Newton promo. It’s coming up tomorrow August 29. Young director Amit Masurkar seems to have made a special film.
