Murder convict who skipped jail term after parole worked in Bollywood films secretly, finally gets arrested

For more than ten years, a man billed in film credits as "Twinkle Dave" turned up on Bollywood sets, Gujarati web series and theatre stages appearing in projects as high-profile as Thugs of Hindostan and Jayeshbhai Jordaar. What no producer, co-star or casting director knew, according to the Gujarat Police, was that he was actually Hemant Modi, a 53-year-old convicted murderer who had walked away from a life sentence in 2014, as per a report in NDTV.

A double life that began with a jumped parole
Modi was convicted by a Gujarat court in 2008, along with several others, for the 2005 killing of Narendra Kamble during a violent dispute over an allegedly illegal staircase near Parshwanath Township in Ahmedabad. While serving his term at Mehsana District Jail, he was granted a 30-day parole in 2014 and never returned. The Gujarat High Court formally declared him a parole jumper later that year.

From a Patan hideout to Mumbai film sets
Police say Modi first lay low in Patan before relocating to Ahmedabad in 2015, where he reinvented himself as Twinkle Dave and worked at a private firm. By 2017 he had moved to Mumbai and quietly built an eight-year run as a supporting actor. He featured in the 2018 Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan epic Thugs of Hindostan and the 2022 Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar, alongside Gujarati films and theatre productions including Yugpurush and Gandhi Viruddh Godse.

Caught after returning home
His luck ran out earlier this month after he shifted back to Ahmedabad's Gheekanta area in 2025 and landed on the crime branch's radar. Officers picked him up near a metro station on Wednesday. He will now be handed over to Mehsana District Jail to serve the rest of his sentence.
