Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is set for her standalone film Black Widow which was supposed to open in April in India but has been pushed ahead due to Coronavirus. The prequel of sorts, the timeline of this film is right after Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. For unversed, spoilers ahead, Black Widow and Hawkeye secured the Soul Stone in Avengers: Endgame and for that, she had to sacrifice her life. Although Natasha’s death was addressed in the film, she never got a proper funeral, unlike Tony Stark/Iron Man. The new Marvel theory suggests that she did not die after all.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of Yelena Belova played by Florence Pugh who is like a sister to Natasha. She is also another graduate of the Red Room a.k.a the Black Widow program. Last year in June, it was reported that Ray Winstone will be part of the film but his role was kept a secret until now. He is essaying the role of Dreykov, head of the Red Room, the man who oversaw young women transform into trained killers. He was mentioned by Loki in The Avengers while he was having a conversation with Natasha.
Since Yelena and Natasha trained in similar environments and share similar traits, it might be Yelena who died in Avengers: Endgame. The theory further states that she might have used the face-swapping technology to pose as Black Widow. This technology was previously seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that helped Natasha, at the time, to take down Hydra's infiltration in S.H.I.E.L.D.
Another theory is that Yelena and Natasha team up to take down Taskmaster using the same technology.
Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson in the title role with Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, and Ray Winstone.
