Madhu Mantena talks about his ongoing wedding celebrations with Masaba

Producer Madhu Mantena tied the knot with his significant other Masaba Gupta on June 3. It was a very quiet wedding attended only by close family and friends. Now on November 21 and 22, Madhu and Masaba will be extending their wedding celebrations to all their family and friends.

Explaining the reason for an encore wedding, Madhu says, "We owe it to our friends. Both Masaba and I have loads of friends all over the film industry. They couldn't share our joy in June when we made our togetherness official."

Madhu says the June 3 wedding was just a formality. "We wanted to live together as a couple but not as an unmarried couple. So we underwent a simple wedding ceremony. But now we'll invite everyone who matters to us for a two-day wedding at the ITC Maratha and Reliance Studios. We'll have a sangeet ceremony and then a proper wedding. Both Masaba and I love all the wedding rituals and we want to go through them all one by one with our friends and relatives in attendance."

In December, there will be a third wedding ceremony in Hyderabad. Says Madhu emotionally. "I am from Hyderabad. My heart is in that city. So there's no way I won't let all my friends and relatives in Hyderabad be part of the joy of my togetherness with Masaba. So yes, we'll host a wedding ceremony in Hyderabad in December."

Madhu reiterates that these are not planned as three separate weddings. "These are all extensions of one ongoing wedding ceremony that started in June and will end in December."

Madhu says marrying Masaba in three instalments is not enough. "I can marry her any number of times. She has brought so much stability into my life. The quality that I like best about Masaba is her straightforwardness. She is blunt and forthright. But unlike other blunt people she isn't rude or insensitive. She is very kind and compassionate and caring. And she understands me instinctively and accepts me with my weaknesses."

What attracted Madhu to Masaba was her talent and simplicity. "She is a very creative person. I've a weakness for creative people. The minute I met Masaba, I knew she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Her clothes designs are very unique. I am very proud of what she does. Masaba is a skilled artiste but not vain like many artistes. She is a very simple person."

Most of all she makes Madhu happy. "Every night I go to sleep with a smile on my face. Every morning I wake up smiling. And when I see her next to me I've reason to smile the whole day.'

Incidentally, Madhu's best friend Shahid Kapoor got married within a few months after Madhu. Says Madhu, "It's a just a coincidence. But a happy coincidence. Now both and Shahid I have someone to go back to in the evening."
