The day four at the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week came to a close with the new luxury prét line, GLOBAL INDIAN by designer Tarun Tahiliani presented by NEXA. The collection echoed the master couturier’s marked signature drapery combined with technology — resulting in a one-of-a-kind collection that is, in equal parts, structured, sleek, and aerodynamic for women and men alike. Kriti Sanon turned showstopper for the night.
Presented at a time of renewed hope, optimism, and joy in revelry, the new season’s glamorous line-up mirrors the current sentiments of our times. Tahiliani does so through the artful use of unusual textures, modern cuts and details, textiles woven with zari thread and resham to create metallic-textured sheen reminiscent of molten metals, and the generous use of prints that have been hand-painted in an embroidered form.
Celebrating metallic tones of blacks, golds, greys, and blush pinks, GLOBAL INDIAN is a playful symphony of luminous hues and cascading drapes designed for the future generation that is confident, experimental, has fashion in its roots and values design with a global interpretation. For women, this was showcased in an elaborate array of seductive, sensual silhouettes such as lehengas, conceptual sarees, structured body corsets, kaftans, jumpsuits, gowns, co-ords, dhoti pants, and gilets soaked in a multitude of motifs, often accentuated with a belt wrapped at the waist. For men, these translated into kurtas, banddgalasherwanis, bundi jackets, dhoti pants, pyjamas, and churidars.
The designer turned the grounds outside Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium as his runway to showcase a total of 85 styles that embodied the synergy of modern and traditional. The high-energy show also saw a live performance by Ma Faiza and actor Kriti Sanon walking the ramp. The star served sultry elegance in a black bustier and skirt set as she closed Day 4 of the fashion week. Kriti's showstopper ensemble features a strapless black bustier with a plunging sweetheart neckline. It had structured draping runs throughout, with translucent panelling, an asymmetric hemline, shimmering embellishments, and a bodycon style. The actor draped her arms in a similar textured dupatta that was fastened to the back of the bustier. The bustier was paired with a mermaid-inspired bodycon skirt with a floor-grazing train, dazzling embellishments, a sheer panel on the side, and a high-rise waistline.
She completed the ensemble with similar stilettos and hanging tiered earrings encrusted with jewels. Kriti chose a back-swept and wet hairstyle, a nude pink lip colour, flowing skin, winged eyeliner, kohl-adorned eyes, subtle smokey eye shadow, mascara-laden lashes, sharp contouring, and reddened cheeks as her final appearance.
Designer Tarun Tahiliani said, “What better way to show our new streamlined, sleek, aerodynamic, India modern collection for the Global Indian, in collaboration with NEXA - one of the proudest Indian stories in the automotive sector. It’s our great pleasure to be back at FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week and to show against Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, a beautiful building which has our India Gate behind us on one side and we have showcased in the middle of this great crossroad of Indian fashion going forward at the wonderfully united Fashion Week with a collection of ours that is India modern and global.”
A first in the brand’s storied history predominantly celebrated for its bridalwear, thedesigner showcased an inventive modern-contemporary luxury prêt collection befitting India Modern and its urban pace and lifestyle — exemplifying the evolution both Tahiliani the designer and his eponymous label have undergone in recent times.
In both silhouettes and artistry, the new collection GLOBAL INDIAN is a youthful, inspired expression of India that fuses vitality, functionality, comfort, and accessibility. Tahiliani marries innovation and contemporary aesthetics with effortless fluidity and the timelessness of India’s rich crafts and craftsmanship.
On the work front, Kriti Sanon was recently seen in Bachchhan Paandey. She will next star in Ganapath and Bhediya.
