Suniel Shetty, Akanksha Sharma, Sooraj Pancholi, director Prince Dhiman and producer Kanubhai Chauhan launched the trailer of their historical action drama, Kesari Veer, at a multiplex in Mumbai. Suniel Shetty was asked about the character of Raghavan which he played in Main Hoon Na (2004) and his answer became a talking point.

After the shocking Pahalgam Terror Attack, a section of netizens has been sharing clips of Raghavan from Main Hoon Na and are calling him a patriot. They refuse to believe that he was a villain.

When asked about it, Suniel Shetty said, “Jo desh se pyaar kar sakta hai, woh kabhi villain ho hi nahin sakta hai!” This led to claps from the attendees.

He continued, “Nothing is greater than my country. I am not just saying it for the heck of it. When it comes to sports or any other aspect, if you talk about my country, I am a different human being altogether. Hence, I feel that (love for the country) is an extension of my life.”

Suniel continued, “I have never been scared. Raghavan was a negative character as per the script. But when I heard the narration, I took two minutes to give my nod. I still remember talking to Farah Khan and she told me that I was essaying a negative character. I asked her, ‘How come Raghavan is negative? Hamara dushman hamesha woh hi rahega. Raghavan’s son had died, that too on the other side of the border. I (Raghavan) want my son’s mortal remains back and they refused to do so. Aise mein toh dushmani double hi ho jaayegi. Hence, from what angle was Raghavan negative?”

He added, “I won the award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for the role of Dev in Dhadkan (2000). Lekin jab koi insaan apni girlfriend se itna pyaar karta hai, how can he be negative? Hence, I always look at my character in a certain way.”

Kesari Veer releases in cinemas on May 16.
