Karan Kundrra talks about being typecast as “Rich character” : Bollywood News

Actor Karan Kundrra, fresh off the release of his new film Tera Kya Hoga Lovely, has opened up about facing typecasting in the Hindi film industry. The 39-year-old actor acknowledged a trend of being offered roles that portray affluent characters. "There has been a bit of a stereotype with me," he said in an interview with OTTplay. "I only get rich roles. But, I don't disagree with the fact."

Kundrra sheds light on his working relationship with Tera Kya Hoga Lovely director Balwinder Singh Janjua. He clarifies that the director didn't pressure him into the role. Instead, Janjua encouraged him to take it up only if he truly connected with the script.

The actor further spoke about the importance of embodying the physical characteristics of a role. He views this as a shared responsibility between the actor and the director. While the director guides the performance, the actor has a duty to bring the physical aspect to life.

"If anybody has spent time and focused on a character and shown confidence in you," Kundrra explains, "then aapki bhi duty banti hain to at least bring that physicality for the character. Acting director sambhal lega [The acting director will handle it]. When I go on the set with Bali paji [director], I say I don't know anything, you say and then we discuss. I know he is there. He can't handle the physicality. If Guggu [his character] has to look a certain way, then it has to look a certain way."

While navigating typecasting, Kundrra also has upcoming projects. His next venture is the web series Love Adhura, co-starring Erica Fernandes, which premieres on March 13, 2024, on Amazon miniTV.
