Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, both celebrated filmmakers in the Indian film industry, have often been regarded as friends despite their professional competition as contemporaries. However, in a recent interview, Karan Johar revealed an intriguing aspect of their friendship – the absence of congratulatory calls from SLB, even after numerous attempts on his part.

During a conversation with fashion designer Prabal Gurung, Karan Johar was questioned about whether Sanjay Leela Bhansali had reached out to him after the release of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The filmmaker's response was a straightforward “no.” He went on to share, “He has actually never called me after any films but I have called him several times.” Karan Johar also added that it's a rarity for filmmakers to reach out to him personally. However, he did acknowledge receiving calls from various directors, including Anurag Kashyap.

As the conversation unfolded, Karan Johar humorously touched upon his brief stint as an actor in Anurag Kashyap's 2015 film Bombay Velvet, a project that did not meet expectations at the box office. In jest, he quipped, “Anurag Kashyap I love. But he just ruined my profession as an actor because I would have been a… very functional actor.” Johar shared that after the film's underwhelming performance, acting offers in the film industry eluded him.

Speaking of his work commitments, Karan Johar recently returned to direction after seven years with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film was declared as a box office success while it also generated immense love for its portrayal of some unconventional subjects. Furthermore, it also features veteran stars like Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles, along with other actors like Kshitee Jog, Anjal Anand, Aamir Bashir, Churni Ganguly, Tota Roy Chowdhury, among others. The film released on July 28.
