Karan Johar has never left an opportunity where he hasn’t spoken about his admiration and love for former actress and daughter of superstar Rajesh Khanna as well Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle Khanna. The actress turned author is married to another iconic Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and the couple have frequently set couple goals with their social posts where we have also seen them trolling each other occasionally. Filmmaker Karan Johar, who has also been in awe of their relationship, revealed that he was inspired by their love story when he was making Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.

In an interview with Mid-Day, filmmaker Karan Johar opened up about getting inspired from real life stories when he was making RARKPK and revealed that he did borrow a few things from the relationship that Twinkle Khanna shares with Akshay Kumar. He said, “Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I've had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons”.

He continued, “I felt it wasn't impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two stratas, to actually find love. It's like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere.”

Speaking of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, it features Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, who belong to different cultures and backgrounds. While Rocky is a quintessential Punjabi and a wealthy spoilt brat whose values completely differ from a well-educated, independent, upper middle-class but sophisticated and free-thinking Rani Chatterjee, who belongs to a cultured Bengali family. The film also starred Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi caught in a unique triangle of love and released in theatres on July 28 to rave reviews from audiences and critics.
