Actor-producer Sanjay Dutt, Aksha Kamboj, Executive Chairperson of Aspect Global (Aspect Entertainment), Subhash Ghai and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios announced Khalnayak Returns at an event in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt revealed that he’ll be producing the second part of the cult 1993 film under his banner, Three Dimension Motion Pictures. Sanjay Dutt, Jyoti Deshpande and Subhash Ghai gave some headline-worthy quotes at this event.
Sanjay Dutt said, “Aksha is my sister. Iske bacche mere bacche hai. We have a long and deep bond. Collaborating with Aspect is like working with family. I am happy we have come together and I am sure we’ll make some great movies together. But we’ll make films jo paise kamaaye! Kyunki paise waale yahaan khade hai (points at Jyoti Deshpade)!”
He continued, “We are very happy that Jyoti and Jio Studios are there with us. After Dhurandhar, abhi kya bole (smiles)?”
He further said, “Without Subhash ji, it is not possible. He’s a legend and a man of entertainment. I am so grateful and thankful that he gave me the honour of making Khalnayak again.” Subhash Ghai reached the event late. Hence, Sanjay Dutt said, “I am waiting for you. Pata nahin woh abhi kahaan hai!”
Jyoti Deshpande stated, “I have been looking forward to this collaboration. Sanju and I go back a long way. I am in this industry for the last 30-33 years. Earlier, I released almost all his films Overseas.”
She added, “Of course, Dhurandhar made money and broke records. But the fact is that people can’t stop talking about it. It means that it has become a part of popular culture. You can’t escape it. That is what Khalnayak did in 1993. It was a path-breaking, era-defining and genre-defining film. It was way ahead of its time. People couldn’t stop talking about its dialogues, performances, songs, etc. In 1993, Khalnayak became the film whose peak detailing was widely discussed and dissected! Hence, it’s my absolute privilege to be a part of this film and to give it a new tadka and new life.”
Subhash Ghai got a rousing welcome and he exulted, “He’s (Sanjay Dutt is) born as a Dhurandhar actor! I have known him since childhood. I am so happy today that I can’t tell you. It was my genuine, inner wish and also that of Sanju ki yeh film toh banani hai. When a filmmaker is determined to make a film, then it becomes a film of the level of Dhurandhar!”
He also said, “I can assure you that Khalnayak Returns will be better than Khalnayak!”
Subhash Ghai is known to do cameos in his films. Jyoti Deshpande asked the Showman if he would feature in a special appearance in Khalnayak Returns. Subhash Ghai raised laughs as he said, “Aaj kal main cameo karne ka bahut paise leta hoon! After all, cameo has also become a brand in itself. And once we become a brand, we increase our price.”
