Bollywood lost one of its most popular actors Irrfan Khan to cancer. As the family of the actor continue to retain his legacy, a heartfelt note by his wife reminded us of how casual yet easygoing was this late actor. Sharing one of her kitchen memories, Sutapa Sikdar, in her recent post, shared about cultural differences of a Bengali being married to a North Indian, and a mother who wasn’t well-versed with cooking – a post quite memorable to many married women.
Irrfan Khan would say, ‘khichdi bana lete hai’ to wife Sutapa Sikdar; late actor’s wife shares her kitchen memories with her husband
Sharing a photo of worn-out cookbook that she found in one of her recent cleaning spree, Sutapa Sikdar explained why it was special. She said, “Cleaning books is not a chore for me it's diving into old anecdotes memories and I can spend hours doing that flipping pages and with every flip the places, people ,smell, sound of that place come alive. Each and every time.. afternoon best spent.and I found this tattered book today.! And the memories came gurgling out like water.i could feel the sweat on my fore head ions ago the aroma of fried onion which I hated the next day still stuck on the kitchen curtains..the zeenat aman kind of sleeveless Maxie I used to wear to cook ..the sound of BEST buses honking through the grills of the kitchen..that lone Tulsi tree..irrfan entering the kitchen smoking and giving me a puff with a helpless look on his face.."arre yaar khichri bana lete.."

She went on to even thank the author of the book for giving her the recipe of Butter Chicken which seems to be quite popular among her sons. She added, “A big transition happened in my life and food from Bengali to North Indian and since I was not into marriage and domesticity I knew no cooking. New in bombay with no family and no cook I was nervous to say the least . With no you tube channel we learnt the hard way ..we bought cook books.and this was my first non fancy basic North Indian cook book. Thankyou mrs balbeer sing I don't know who you are but thanks for saving my life..because butter chicken which I find extremely overrated dish saved my life as my boys loved it. #irrfan #earlylife #memoriesforever”
Interestingly, the post was found by author Balbir Singh’s grandkid who decided to drop a comment on it adding, “So lovely to read your memories of my grandmother's book ???? Always been a huge fan of the dearest and most special of actors #irrfankhan ?????? Pallavi x Best wishes to Babil for his Netflix Show! We shall definitely watch!”
