For Chandni Bhabhda, the journey to the big screen began far away from film sets and spotlights. It started in a single-room kitchen, where dreams were imagined quietly and held onto firmly. Before making her debut as Jia in Dharma Productions’ Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri, Chandni spent 18 years living in rented homes with her parents and brother, moving frequently and growing up with a small circle that largely revolved around her camera.

Looking back, she recalls watching Student of the Year and being drawn to the unmistakable Dharma aesthetic. That moment stayed with her. “It was a dream come true,” she says, reflecting on how a long-held aspiration eventually translated into a role under one of Bollywood’s most influential banners.
While the scale of a Dharma debut was overwhelming in itself, Chandni says the emotional core of her first experience came from working alongside Jackie Shroff. Her first day on set, particularly a coffee scene with the veteran actor, was marked by nervous energy. “I was shivering during the coffee scene,” she admits, recalling how daunting it felt to share screen space with someone she had grown up watching.
Those nerves, however, didn’t last long. Jackie Shroff’s presence, she says, had a grounding effect on everyone around him. Known for his warmth and effortless rapport, he brought the same affection to the entire unit. His familiar phrases — “Baith jaa chotu” and “Baith jaa bhidu” — echoed across the set, instantly easing the atmosphere.
“I never had a dull moment with Jackie sir,” Chandni shares. “His favourite line was ‘Gheun taak,’ and he has this unique ability to set himself apart from the crowd just by being his authentic self.”
Beyond the light-hearted moments, Chandni speaks about forming a deeper connection with him off-camera. Between takes, their conversations moved beyond cinema, touching on spirituality, religion, life philosophies and global topics. Those exchanges, she says, became as meaningful as the scenes they shot together.
The bond extended into everyday moments as well — sharing meals, sitting together between shots, and observing how Jackie Shroff navigated the set with ease and humility. For Chandni, what could have been an intimidating debut instead became a space of learning and comfort.
