Here’s why Shahid Kapoor cried before shooting Batti Gul Meter Chalu : Bollywood News

Shahid Kapoor is currently busy with the promotions of Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu. The film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Yami Gautam and Divyendu Sharma in pivotal roles. The film revolves around a social message and this is the first time Shahid Kapoor will essay the role of a lawyer on the big screen. In the film’s climax, there are a lot of court proceedings for which Shahid Kapoor had to prep a lot. He has a 3 minute monologue in the film which a difficult process and which also made him cry.

Here’s why Shahid Kapoor cried before shooting Batti Gul Meter Chalu

Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Shahid Kapoor was asked which monologue was more demanding – Haider or Batti Gul Meter Chalu. To this, he replied, “So, the mood and headspace of the character in Haider was definitely more complex. However, this sequence in Batti Gul Meter Chalu is making a large social message. I actually cried when I read the monologue for the first time. Ofcourse, I knew the content of it but you know before doing the scene, three to four days before you are doing something so large, you wanna start absorbing it and making it sit in your system.”

Shahid further revealed why he ended up crying after reading the script. He said, “We shot all the portions of the court together. Every day, I had like 20 pages to say. So, I didn't actually have time to get to that part because I was focusing on today. I remember one day I was driving which was like two or three days before the scene was to be shot. I was in the car as the drive to Filmcity is enough to read a couple of scripts. And I just started crying, you know. I was like I have to do this properly as this is important.”

“For me, two things, obviously what it says is very important. And I really wanted it to be felt sincerely by the audience and I didn't want to just say it. In Haider, we had cuts. In this film (Batti Gul Meter Chalu), there are no cuts. It's one shot. There are lots of facts and figures in there which is talking about a lot of information. So, that made this more difficult I would say,” he said.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Shahid Kapoor will essay the role of a lawyer in Batti Gul Meter Chalu. The film will star Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam. It is a quirky take on the conspiracy behind exorbitant electricity bills. It is slated to release on September 21, 2018.
